Definition and classification of automobile axles
The half shaft is a solid shaft that transmits torque between the differential and the drive wheel. The inner end is generally connected to the half shaft gear through a spline, and the outer end is connected to the hub. The half shaft is also called a transaxle.
The half shafts commonly used in modern automobiles are available in both full float and semi-floating depending on the type of support. (There are also three types, namely full floating, 3/4 floating, semi-floating).
The fully floating half shaft transmits torque only, does not bear any reaction force and bending moment, and cooperates with the independent suspension to improve the comfort of the vehicle, and thus is widely used in various types of automobiles. The full-floating half-axis is easy to disassemble. When repairing and repairing, the half-axle can be pulled out by simply unscrewing the fixing bolts of the half-shaft. The wheel and the axle housing can support the car, which brings convenience to the maintenance of the car.
The semi-floating half shaft transmits both torque and full reaction and bending moments. Its support structure is simple and low cost, and it is mainly suitable for pickup trucks and SUV vehicles that do not require high comfort. However, such a half-shaft support is troublesome to be removed, and if the axle is broken during driving, the risk of the wheel flying off is easily caused, and it is a form to be eliminated.
